Sounds like it was a great way to the lady's heart for this particular gentleman, but ISTM part of the charm of such a thing is figuring out what would be perfect for her and doing it, not just assuming that bigger and more creative is better. :-)
It would have been fun to drive a tractor, but other than that I'm pretty satisfied with how I proposed. And I'm very happy with marriage!

I'm guessing it was in German, but I'm having trouble figuring out how you write "Wirst du mich heiraten?" with only 150 bales of hay. :^)
Or at least, how do you stack them? Or were they simply laid out there?
"Heiratest Du mich?" might work, and I think that's acceptable informality, in the way "Marry me?" is.
Or perhaps "Elvis in Vegas"?
