Give it up, Mike?

Evidently, John McCain's camp is "suggesting" that Mike Huckabee stop competing for the GOP presidential nomination, claiming that he's "mathematically eliminated."

Methinks McCain needs some math lessons, as he does not have 1191 delegates yet. Sorry, John. You get the pennant when your magic number is zero, not when it's likely that your magic number will get to zero. Just ask the 1969 Cubs; sometimes the fat lady sings in Gotham instead of Wrigleyville, and it's possible that she'll go visit Arkansas instead of Arizona as well.

Not terribly likely, I'll admit, but it's possible. Just ask some people here.

Arithmetic. It's part of the Quadrivium. Why not make it part of government?

I don't know BB...

I think Republicans need to consolidate and focus on Obama before it's too late. He has amazing pull across a very wide base and it will take every ounce of everything to beat him in November.

I admire Huckabee for continuing the race. Who knows, he may be the Pres 2 terms from now just like McCain didn't win the last time around.

On a second note, do you think the next Pres is a one term Pres given all that he/she will inherit?

jroosh -- that assumes, though, that there's some benefit to getting behind McCain. Not all of us are convinced of that.

Besides, I believe Bert's point was about McCain's use of the word "mathematically" more than about tactical concerns. If it ain't mathematically impossible, all the strategizing in the world doesn't justify McCain's use of the word.

MercyNow, I tend to think you're right about the one term. If McCain wins (and I don't doubt the nominee will be McCain, because there's "mathematically impossible" and then there's "too big a margin to reasonably expect to overcome") he'll never garner the love of the electorate enough to hold on for another term (if age/health even permit that.) And Obama can't possibly live up to the expectations he's setting up for himself and his fans are sucking up.

Roosh, my take is that given that McCain cannot apparently give due homage to the lawful practice of arithmetic, he really needs Huckabee in the race to keep him honest, or else he's easy prey for Obama in the general election.

And also: Go Mets!

(not really, but this lifelong Cubs fan is yet hoping for the improbable)
