Another explanation for the government response?

The American Thinker puts forth a very provocative thesis; that the incompetence shown by the Obama administration in dealing with the BP oil spill could be part of a coordinated Cloward-Piven strategy to achieve socialism by driving more and more people into dependence on the government.

I'm not generally one for conspiracies of this sort; what kind of insane person would intentionally drive a prosperous country to look and act like East Germany or Cuba? However, the ugly reality is that when you look at Obama's appointments, they are by and large the kind of people who would nod appreciatively at Cloward and Piven instead of administering the brutal mockery such an asinine idea deserves.

(Mr. Obama, tear down this wall?)

Well, especially when you consider that The Reason It Didn't Work In East Germany Is That They Were Not As Smart As We Are.™ When you have the wisest, best-educated, most caring people in the history of the planet running your country, socialism will work!

I'm not much for conspiracy theories, so I'm hesitant to buy into it as deliberate, but as opportunity now that it's come about this way? You betcha!

True, but one would hope that eventually, socialist dictator wannabees would figure out that if it didn't work for any nation in the Warsaw Pact or the EU, that maybe, just maybe, they weren't "smart enough" to overcome basic human nature, either.

Of course, when you're dealing with hubris.....

Precisely. Hubris beats experience like rock beats scissors.
