...or at least the brains of what you shot. If this isn't a reason for using chest shots, I don't know what is.

But like the man says: There are plenty of unused/unclaimed brains around. (Ain't that the truth!!) So, why not go for the head shot?
Well, for starters, 'cause I'm not that good of a shot. Bird in the hand..... :^)
a bird in the hand?!? Even you should be able to do a head shot. And were you planning on tanning the bird anyway? Some sort of headdress? Could be interesting!
