Are you interacting with the world,

or are you just watching TV and movies?

That is, the argument is often made that when we partake of modern entertainment, we somehow manage to gain credibility in our interactions with other people. From time to time, I'll concede that it might be true. If they're talking about the latest movie or game and you haven't seen it, you'll be left out to a degree.

On the other hand, how true is it? What does one learn by watching that one cannot learn by reading an account in a magazine or newspaper--in less than a tenth of the time and cost? One watches because one enjoys the watching, not to better witness to the world.

Plus, look back a little to find out what happens when you remove the TV from your bedroom. Can the Vikings compare with this?

On a scarcely related note to the MSNBC story, did you see the NRO article about pro-abortion churches killing themselves demographically?
"In all their unctuous demonstration-marching and statement-making, the pro-abortion-rights church community has not considered the effect of their advocacy on their own demographic health. "

Good point--and by the same logic, we could describe a "Camp Clear-waters TV Shoot" as a church growth program....do you think Pastor Levy would sponsor it? :^)

Sort of related to both... The nice thing about us is: we breed! I don't know about you, Tim, but Bert and I are above the replacement number of children. If we raise 'em right, and with God's blessings, we should be able to have an increasing good effect on our world. :^)

And... No, the Vikings can't compare. Do they usually play night games, though?!? ;^)

Now Mark, you must also consider that not even the Broncos or Buffies count, either. :^)

(or not even the Cornhuskers!)

And Tim's doing his part--he's got #2 on the way.

My point wasn't that watching the Vikings, Broncos, Buffs, or 'Huskers would be better than getting to know your wife (they'd be more like sleeping pills or, in the case of the Buffs and 'Huskers, anti-disiacs).

It was: that they don't generally play at night when the spouse is more properly disposed to amorous situations. I.e., they are not, generally, in conflict. :^)

That said, we do tend to watch 24, NCIS, Lost, and old CSI together.
