Wake up,dad

A young person develops a golden singing voice in church, growing up with seemingly loving parents, and then gets the shot at stardom--finding that in the mix come pervasive opportunities for drug use, fornication, and the general destruction of a man.

We've seen it with Elvis Presley, Dolly Parton, Katy Perry, Mickey Gilley, Aretha Frannklin, Jessica Simpson, Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, and now it's taken another life with Whitney Houston--whose mother sang backups for Elvis, for what it's worth.

Dad, when you see your little boy or girl getting the shot at the big time, remember these people, especially Whitney and Elvis, and make sure that your kids know what they're getting into.  Don't let the dollar signs blind you to the fact that a man can gain the whole world and lose his soul.

RIP, Whitney.

I didn't know Cissy Houston sang back up for Elvis. I was only familiar with her as a gospel singer.

The strange thing about Whitney Houston is that unlike many of the others you listed, she didn't seem to start to come unglued until she was in her 30's, unless her handlers hid it well.

True--she might have been accused of living for the world in the 1980s, but coming unglued (or at least it becoming apparent) seems to have had something to do with her relationship with a chap named "Bobby Brown."

Kinda like Jessica Simpson came unglued with whatshisname she married, Britney Spears.....hey, it's the guy's fault!

Well, Denise Bestman's mother has the last name of Lincoln. Even if I were to get through to Dad, he does not appear to be in the picture, sad to say.

Beautiful voice on that little girl, though. Hopefully she gets her dad back, or gets to borrow someone else's dad, who will help her navigate those rough waters.

(and if I could compete well with the 'almighty dollar,' I reckon I could give Mitt and Rick a run for their money)
