Say What?

Michelle Malkin notes an article which tries mightily to make the case that Comrade Obama's Presidency somehow makes interracial marriage socially acceptable.

Now, given that there is one human race, inter-"racial" marriage is absolutely acceptable, but I'm having trouble seeing how Obama's example changes anything. He's not in a classically "interracial" marriage himself, and the short marriage of his mother and father--characterized by his father's bigamy and neglect of his mother--is pretty much the stereotype portrayed by opponents of inter-"racial" marriage in the 1950s and 1960s.

On the other hand, the marriages of Phil Gramm, Clarence Thomas, Michelle Malkin, and other....conservatives....probably make the case a lot better, I think.

Perhaps Pharaoh's ascendance lets liberals know they can discard their old Jim Crow attitudes, finally? I guess it's a good thing, if it indeed happens, but I would hope that we might get a resurgence of logic sometime, too.

you mean that the former governor of FL, and one time POTUS prospect , jeb bush, gets no credit for his mexican wife?

or alan keyes, who's married to an indian.

seems all the interacial political couples running for POTUS come from the right.

Bingo. Really, most of the interracial couples I'm aware of tend to be conservative for some reason--and most of the anti-"interracial marriage" people I'm aware of are on the left.

Hmmm.....

Wait, if President Obama self-identifies as black, and self-identification is the standard we're supposed to use, and he's married to a black woman, how is that an inter-racial marriage?

I don't care how he self-identifies and if he wants to consider himself black for obvious reasons, that's fine with me. But you can't have it both ways -- either he's black because he says he is, and his marriage isn't inter-racial, or he's not black despite saying he is, but that's not considered a respectful view of the matter.

Silly liberals! Logic is for grown-ups!

According to Black's Law Dictionary (6th ed.)

Marriage License. A license or permission granted by public authority to persons who intend to intermarry... By statute in most jurisdictions, it is made an essential prerequisite to the lawful solemnization of the marriage.

Intermarriage. See Miscegenation.

Miscegenation. Mixture of races. Term formerly applied to marraiage between persons of different races. Statutes prohibiting marriage between persons of different races have been held to be invalid as contrary to equal protection clause of Constitution. Loving v. Virginia, 388 U.S. 1, 87 S. Ct., 1817, 18 L.Ed.2d. 1010.

So... We're still applying (and paying!) for permissions that are deemed unConstitutional and largely unnecessary?!?

Also, just for grins:

Marriage. Legal union of one man and one woman as husband and wife. ...
