Taxing pop?

Apparently, people in the Blagojevich (oops, Obama) administration are advocating a tax on carbonated beverages to "help health." One wonders if they ever considered doing an even better thing by ending subsidies for growing corn and sugar, and maybe they could create an even greater incentive to good health by working to return healthcare to the free market.

Isn't it amazing how these folks so firmly grasp the concept that taxation is a disincentive when it comes to sin-type taxes, but completely miss it when it comes to productivity?

you oppose regulating sugar that is bad for society, but are ok with regulating sex for the same reason?

Actually, I don't. I just don't support subsidizing sugar and corn syrup.

I do, however, support actions designed to prevent young women from being placed into modern day slavery.
