....of mine is when the owner of a small business refers to themself as the "president" of the business instead of the "proprietor", "partner," or "owner." While "President" sounds very impressive, reality is that the "President" only presides over that which belongs to someone else. The higher, and more accurate, titles are "proprietor," "partner," and "owner."
At the very least, if you own a small business and are loath to use the high title of "owner," please refer to yourself as "Grand Pooh Bah" or something at least a little more dignified than "President."

It's possible that in many of these cases they legally have to use the title of "president." My dad owns a small business of around 25-30 employees and his title is President, but I believe that's because of the way it's incorporated.
Plus, in his industry (and many other small business's industries), their customers are larger companies who need to be able to trust the small business. Using "proprietor" or "owner" makes their size obvious and may take away business they otherwise would get as they grow.
But I can see the peeve. Resort owners typically don't need presidents!
