A conversation every dad should have with his sons

In the wake of the end of the trial (for now at least) of George Zimmerman, here's a conversation every dad, red, yellow, black, or white, or a mix of shades, ought to have with his sons:

Son, you're getting to the point where you are looking a lot like a man, and I want you to start acting like a man.  So listen up; this could save your life.

If you choose to assault someone for whatever reason, remember that about one in twenty adults have a permit to carry a concealed weapon, and that as soon as you're really "whoopin' ass", you might find out who one of them is in the worst possible way.

Your pride ain't worth your life, son.

(and if the reader might think that your host thinks life might have been a lot better for a lot of people if Michael Jackson had been a little bit more plausible as a role model in "Beat it", the gentle reader would be correct)

My Dad's advice: Don't run around in peoples' backyards after dark. AND if the police stop you put both hands on the wheel and don't move them.

I once tried to "whoop ass" on someone back in HS. As I recall ... I received the a** kicking

I learned about the same thing from my dad--which would suggest the real problem for a lot of kids, I think.

And thankfully, I never have had the chance to administer or receive a dose of "WA". Closest I came was when someone a head shorter than I decided for reasons I forget that I needed to receive a dose, but a couple of quick thwacks to the noggin persuaded him that he was mistaken.

I missed out on that story, Honey. Love it. Thanks for working with Sam & Ben in this area. Having grown up around a brother, I understand a guy's instinct to fight. Thankful for self-control as well. --Mrs. BB

Gino, I'm thinking that even better is to suffer a mild defeat by someone who is not even trying to hurt you badly. And so you get thinking.....what would have happened if Bob would have gotten ticked and decided to really hurt me?
