Reports from Venezuela indicate that a possum infestation on the 9th floor of a Venezuelan hospital in AnzoƔtegui has resulted in the deaths of 17 newborns. Now it was funny, if nasty, that a nation that has vast pulpwood forests cannot provide itself sufficient toilet paper. This, however, is something that should persuade even the most ardent Chavezistas of the truth of Reagan's adage; if you brought socialism to the Sahara, they'd soon have a shortage of sand.
End socialism; it's for the children. Literally.
Update: reports indicate that Venezuela is also running short of food. Again, impressive (or more accurately, depressive) that a nation so rich in natural resources to lack something so basic. But that said, Ukraine was the breadbasket of Europe until Lenin and Stalin got a hold of it. Lesson learned: socialism kills.

Venezuela should be a reasonable prosperous nation. too bad all this is happening, but they are ripe and prime for another dictator to take over to right the ship.
The trick is that a dictator can't right the ship--he might get Venezuela back to what it was before Chavez (which was better) and kick out the Cubans (which would be great), but the very premiss of a man who can "do anything" is contrary to the best economic program--free markets.
I ought to write more on that one.....
