Update: Mayo Clinic Diet

I posted a while back to a quick review of the Mayo Clinic Diet, and figure that, having received an updated blood test (lipids and sugar), a few numbers ("In God we Trust, all others must bring data") might be in order.

Weight: down about 25 lbs.  (Mrs. Bubba is down about 10)
BMI: from 29.3 to 26 (not telling about Mrs. Bubba, but hers is way lower than mine)
Glucose: about the same
Triglycerides: down over 40%
HDLs: up 20%
LDLs: down slightly
Belt; down 2"
Cycling speed: up about 1mph to work
Knee and back pain; virtually eliminated

Non-numeric data:

Food budget; slightly up (more fish, vegetables, and fruits, less grains)
Taste: improved.  Substitute quality for quantity
Hunger: about an hour or so before each meal, there are hunger pangs
"Full" feeling after meals; I do not miss the over-full feeling I used to have after some meals.

Sustainability; this is not an Atkins or "cabbage soup" diet that you'll be glad it's done when you've lost the weight, and then you can move on to normal eating.  Rather, it's simply a better way of life that will reward your taste buds and your health for the long term.

i've lost 20 by reducing carbs and eating less fat. no formula. just moderation. i eat less of the same unhealthy foods i still eat.

i need a higher fat diet (or hi moisture) to get most stuff to slide down. thats why granola bars would never work.

congratulations on your progress

Gino, no granola bars, thankfully, and a lot of what I'm doing would work for you. Except perhaps the raw vegetable salads!

And congrats to you, too!

lol, i eat lots of raw veggie salads, usually bleu cheese topped.

veggies are not much problem, being fresh they do contain enough moisture.

cookies are out. cakes are out (not dense enough). chocolates and hi sugar sweets tend to smear. only fresh moist breads work. steaks need to be medium or rarer.
sometimes i wonder how even got those extra pounds i had to shed.
