A matter of crucial importance

My old 22" Weber grill is wearing out--can't control air going in, hence it cooks as "hot" and no other way--and wonder if there are any other charcoal afficionados out there who have anything they would recommend.  Budget is "modest".

Sorry, gotta be charcoal.....if I want to cook with gas, I'll cook inside.

I don't really have any advice, other than DON'T go with a cheap no-name option. I've only done it once, and got a grill that worked great until the meat was half done. It happened every time I used the grill - something with the airflow (or lack of it) really screwed up cooking on that thing.

Use some foil to plug the vents on the bottom to reduce the air intake.

I just replaced the 3-bladed vent/ash scraper for my Weber (22" also, I think) for very little money ($13) and effort...

try www.grillstuff.com They also sell replacement grates - my charcoal grate may last a little while longer, but for $11 and the same shipping price.... :^)

Mark--thanks, and done. Company I used to work for was Emerson--the holding company that makes cheap radios and a host of other electronic goods. I was doing microwave/RF/optical stuff, not the radios.
