And if little dings on other Insights are seen as horrendous, I can see where the parts would be valuable.

Still doesn't make it a money-saver, energy-wise, but it explains your dad's experience.Bike Bubbahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08193546045614393425noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19803826.post-1151428501872228602006-06-27T10:15:00.000-07:002006-06-27T10:15:00.000-07:00My father had a Honda hybrid. He put a lot of highway miles on it, wrecked it (minor damage that "totalled" it) after a year or two, and got a check back for abour $4000 because of its salvage value.Markhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17349169580520258486noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19803826.post-1151428407146804732006-06-27T10:13:00.000-07:002006-06-27T10:13:00.000-07:00Consider putting long-life, low-wattage compact fl...Consider putting long-life, low-wattage compact flourescents where you use lights a lot or where your children leave them on unattended.Markhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17349169580520258486noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19803826.post-1151425175646284392006-06-27T09:19:00.000-07:002006-06-27T09:19:00.000-07:00OK, OK, I don't drive the speed limit when I'm wit...OK, OK, I don't drive the speed limit when I'm within 50 miles of Chicago, either. :^)

(or Detroit...but most places it works for me!)

One interesting thing; even if gasoline were to go to $10/gallon, you still might be better to do something besides buy a Prius because people will shift to other sources of energy--raising their costs proportionally as well.

(my dad notes that back in the sixties, he cut the fuel costs for the paper mill he supervised immensely by installing a "dual fuel" burner--natural gas/fuel oil--and playing the vendors off against one another. )Bike Bubbahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08193546045614393425noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19803826.post-1151357640862764162006-06-26T14:34:00.000-07:002006-06-26T14:34:00.000-07:00Yeah, I thought about buying a hybrid last year bu...Yeah, I thought about buying a hybrid last year but by the time I calc the loss in my trade in + the premium for the hybrids, it was like paying an extra $7k! Further analysis came out to driving 8 more years in my current car to be even. Of course, if gas price hits $10, then I may change my mind:o) I'm thinking about spending $700 on a road bike to ride to work in the fall.

Oh, and uhm driving 55-65 mph on the FL highways will get run over by all other cars.Mercy Nowhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02460657808114487254noreply@blogger.com
